THE African Virtual University (AVU) has launched the first ever open and distance e-learning centre at the University of Zambia
(UNZA). And AVU Rector. Dr Bakary Diallo has explained that under the newly-launched programme, UNZA needed to adapt its existing programmes and deliver its own e-learning programmes.

Officiating at the launch of open and distance e-learning centre at UNZA, Dr Diallo said the programme would focus on the use of ICTs both in and across the curriculum, with a particular focus on mathematics and science education.

"The programme expects to enroll about 9,600 teacher trainees in the first year in all 10 countries. The programme will benefit beneficiary countries by improving the quality of teaching and learning in mathematics and sciences through the use of ICTs," he said.
