The African Virtual University (AVU) will be participating in the 6th eLearning Africa conference in Dar es Salaam from 25-27 May 2011 http://www.elearning-africa.com/
The AVU has an agreement with ICWE, the conference organizers, and will have a number of activities in this conference, including running an exhibition stand and participating in several sessions.
Bakary Diallo, the AVU Rector and Larry Cooperman, member of the AVU Board of Directors are among the keynote speakers at this year's conference.
The AVU will be celebrating its 3rd eLearning Day during this conference. The theme of this year's eLearning day is Developing and Using OERs in Africa: Lessons Learned from the African Virtual University. A Webinar will be held as part of the AVU eLearning Day from 1130 – 1300 hrs (EAT) on Thursday, May 26 2011 and is open to participants at the conference and others who will connect via the Internet. The presentations will focus on the development of 219 Mathematics, Sciences and Teacher Education Resources by 12 universities in 10 African countries and hosting them on the interactive portal OER@AVU http://oer.avu.org. The speakers will be Dr. Bakary Diallo in Tanzania, Ms Catherine Wangeci Thuo in Nairobi, Kenya and Dr Therrezinha Fernandes in Dakar, Senegal.
The AVU will also attend a pre-conference workshop organized on May 25th by the Commonwealth of Learning and UNESCO on Open Educational Resources. The AVU will also take part in the Open Courseware Consortium (OCWC) session on Open Educational Resources.
