Dear friends and colleagues,
on behalf of the Open Educational Quality Initiative (OPAL), UNESCO and the European Foundation for Quality in E-Learning (EFQUEL) would like to invite your organization join the OPAL Register.
The OPAL Initiative aims to improve the quality of higher education and adult education by highlighting innovative practices in the use of open educational resources (OER), or open educational practices (OEP) to transform education and training.
OPAL is a 2010 – 2011 flagship initiative being implemented by a group of organizations representing leading Higher Education Institutions and Educational Organizations*.
The OPAL Register is a list of organizations declaring their use of open educational practices (OEP).
Organizations register to self-assess their OEP maturity levels based on the OPAL OEP Guidelines with questions on levels of:
- open policies
- use of open educational resources
- open learning architectures
They can choose to have their assessment critically reviewed independent experts which provides the organization with a confidential, comprehensive, Learning Report containing verified statements, improvement potential, and fields of excellence. The organization can then choose to make this Report publicly available.
The best reviewed public assessments can be considered for the OPAL Awards which provide exposure and recognition for successful open educational practices resulting in the improvement and quality and innovation in educational organisations. The winners and highly commended entries in the OPAL Awards will be announced at the 2011 Online Educa Berlin Conference**.

With Kind Regards,
