Providing Quality Education Through Distance and eLearning
In the last issue of the African Virtual University (AVU) newsletter, we talked about the new direction that the AVU has taken. The AVU has framed many of its activities as services that are provided to the client or recipient for a fee. These new programs and services that include: diploma & certificate programs; 3rd party programs and courses; e-Conferencing and virtual meetings; 3rd party and custom content development have continued to be implemented in line with the AVU’s business strategy.
AVU’s unrivalled state of the art ICT Infrastructure
The Information Technology Department provides support to the African Virtual University in order to meet the organization’s goals through the efficient and effective use of technology and communication resources. One of the unit's main service focus is the AVU Website www.avu.org which went live on 27th April 2010 and is the AVU’s main brand communication and marketing tool. There has been a vibrant response to the new-look website with new unique visits averaging 3,600 per month. The AVU website is also a Central point of access to the AVU’s Web Services such as the Virtual Classroom, the Virtual Campus for Development and Peace (VCDP) and now the Open Education Resources (OER@AVU).
AVU Multinational Project Concluded in February 2011
With the objective of strengthening the capacity of the AVU and a network of institutions coordinated by the AVU to deliver and manage quality ICT assisted education and training opportunities, the AVU Multinational Support Project has been one of AVU’s highly valued initiatives since 2005
Webinar: Producing quality OERs and building an Interactive OER Portal in Africa: A case study of the African Virtual University
Dr. Bakary Diallo, Rector of the African Virtual University (AVU) will present on the recently launched interactive portal called OER@AVU at the OCW Consortium webinar on March 15th, at 10AM EST. This talk is a must for those interested in production and use of open educational resources in developing countries.
