The Teacher Education Advisory Committee was formed in 2005 to serve as the Governing Body to oversee the implementation of the Teacher Education Program. It is composed of Pro Vice Chancellors/Deputy Vice Chancellors/Deputy Rectors of each participating institution as well as the Deans of Faculties of Education of each participating institution. Terms Of Reference
The Teacher Education Advisory Committee was formed during the first workshop (23-27 May, 2005) in Nairobi.
The overall purpose of the Committee is to act as the Governing body for the Teacher Education Program in Africa. Its membership includes: Pro Vice Chancellors/Deputy Vice Chancellors/Deputy Rectors at each participating partner Institution (PI) and members of the Teacher Education Program team at AVU. The committee reports to the PI Vice Chancellors/Rectors and the AVU Rector.

a. Tasks / Responsibilities at inception
- Coordination of the AVU Teacher Education Program at partner Institutions.
- Representation of the interests of Teacher Education program within the governing bodies of partner institutions, e.g. Senate /Council.
- Drafting of legal agreements for the AVU/PI Teacher Education collaboration.(for VC signature).
- Development of a Quality Assurance Mechanism.
- Development of financial models for the Teacher Education Program (For revenue generation and sustainability).
- Inter-institutional management of the development and implementation of the Teacher Education program in the ten AfDB countries.
- Development and implementation of a Monitoring and Reporting system for Teacher Education activities and progress.
b. Accomplishments to date
- Effectively coordinated the implementation process of the AVU Teacher Education Program at partner Institutions
- Successfully represented the interests of the Teacher Education program within the governing bodies of partner institutions, e.g. Senate /council leading to the approval of the program curricula.
- Finalized the legal agreements for the AVU/PI Teacher Education collaboration.
- Development of a Quality Assurance Mechanism
