AFRICAN VIRTUAL UNIVERSITY PARTICIPATED at e-LEARNING AFRICA 2015
E-Learning Africa is the largest conference of professionals in e-learning and ICT-supported instruction on the continent. This conference fosters the development of multinational and cross-industry contacts and partnerships, and enables participants to enhance their knowledge, expertise, and abilities.
The AVU was represented by its Rector, Dr. Bakary Diallo, and by Dr. Marilena Cabral (Manager, Academic Programs). Dr. Bakary Diallo chaired a conference session entitled “Embracing OERs”. This session aimed to explore the concept of “openness” based on research on OERs. It will serve to clarify concepts like open resources, open-knowledge-building principles, and strategies for building skills in open research, as well as to share challenges and best practices of open access initiatives.
Dr. Marilena Cabral participated as a speaker at a session entitled “A Truly African MOOC: Is it Coming?” MOOCs have the potential to create vast opportunities and distribute education more openly. Some might argue that their true power has yet to be realized. When will we see MOOCs in African languages that teach about African cultural heritage? Dr. Marilena Cabral presented the outcomes of the AVU MOOC entitled “Using ICTs to Enrich Teaching and Learning” launched earlier this year.
