On July 13th, 2012, the African Virtual University held its 4th General Assembly during which the following new members were elected to the Board:
Prof. Mary Teuw Niane, Vice Chair, Rector, Université Gaston Berger, Senegal, Representative for West Africa;
Prof. Aggrey L. Abate, Vice Chancellor, University of Juba, South Sudan, Reprehensive of Eastern Africa;
Dr. Gérard Nkunzimana, Rector, Univesité Lumière Burundi, Representative for Central Africa;
Dr. Sidi Mohamed Abdellahi, President Université de Nouakchott
Prof. Rogerio Uthui, Rector, Universidade Pedagogica, Mozambique will continue to serve as the Chair of the Board and as a Representative for Southern Africa Region.
Prof. Ezra Maritim, Chairman of the Commission for Higher Education of Kenya and Dr. Larry Cooperman from the University of California, Irvine will continue to serve as co-opted members on the AVU Board. Three members retired from the AVU Board and these are: Prof. Ann Floyd, Prof. Gregoire Njejimana, and Prof. Suleiman Gulaid.
The AVU General Assembly is held every two years and it is attended by AVU board of directors and Vice Chancellors of Partner Institutions.
