The African Virtual University is working on a Project with the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) Skills For Employment Project. The Project is jointly funded by the MasterCard Foundation and the Government of Sénégal.
The objective of the project is to increase employment pathways and improve employment outcomes for Francophone AIMS graduates, graduates of maths and science departments from 12 Universities across La Francophonie in Africa and particularly women. It is a five-year project (April 2016-March 2021) and is based in Senegal in collaboration with La Francophonie partners.
At the end of the Project, improved employment in industry for AIMS graduates and graduates of the local Partner Universities, from their mathematics departments is expected. The Project will enhance the quality, relevance, reach and impact of the AIMS model while also ensuring that more Francophone scientists, particularly women, are fully engaged in industry and entrepreneurship across La Francophonie.
Therefore, AVU is involving 13 Francophone Institutions in the AVU network across 10 countries.
