This project is an initiative funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and partly by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Somalia. The project’s overall objective is to strengthen the capacity of the AVU and its network of institutions to deliver and manage quality ICT assisted education and training opportunities in selected African countries.
Following the successful completion of the Phase I of the Multinational project, the African Development Bank Group’s board of directors approved USD15.6 million grant in December 2011 to build on the project’s initial successes.
The new project, “ The Multinational AVU support project Phase II”, aims at creating and strengthening the capacity of the AVU and target institutions to improve access to quality and affordable higher education through application of ICT innovations for Open, Distance and E- Learning (ODeL).
The project beneficiaries will be 27 AVU Partner Institutions in 21 countries which include: 9 Francophone countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal); 3 Lusophone countries (Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau and Mozambique); and 9 Anglophone countries Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, and Tanzania.
